Below are some cases that Kathy has come across over the years. It does not act as testimonials or endorsements. The purpose of these cases are to give you some perspective as to some of the various disorders that Kathy has treated at her clinic.





Case #1. Low reserve, low aMH, high Maternal age and high FSH.

DL, Diagnosed with Head Fistula(some symptoms include bulging eyes, tinnitus, headache, trouble sleeping, concentrating), had procedure done and radiation treatment done. Now feel better and want to try for baby#2. Told she had low reserve, high maternal age, and high FSH, which equates to lower chance of pregnancy. She tried IVF, but did not respond well with the meds, didn't finish going through the whole IVF process. Did a few IUI but didn't work. Had an ectopic pregnancy during this process, also had blocked tubes. Came to Kathy and started acupuncture treatment in May/2014, really want to try for baby #2, believes she responds better naturally and wanted to try this route. Had acupuncture done once a week. Got pregnant at end of June/2014. Continued treatment up to 1st trimester. Delivered a healthy baby in Feb/2014.

Case #2. Stress. Severe PMS.

GS, Female, age 35, Trying to Conceive had a still birth at 22 weeks in May/2014, did D&C, since then, been having severe PMS which starts a week before her period. Some symptoms include moodiness, cry easily, and get mad easily, headache, and cold easily. Sleep is also disturbed because of having a young toddler at home. Started acupuncture treatments with Kathy in mid January/2015. After 3 treatments, patient notice difference in her energy, mood body temperature is warmer. After a month of treatment, she got pregnant in February/2015. Continued treatment up to 17 weeks into her pregnancy. All test & Ultrasound of baby normal.
Case #3. Stress, painful period. Previous miscarriage.NN, Female, age 38 trying to conceive had a miscarriage in Nov/2014 @6 week, and seeing a fertility specialist alongside. Diet is healthy, trouble falling asleep since miscarriage, also found period amount is lesser since miscarriage and has clots. Has painful period – need to take advil in day1 of period. Iron level on the lower end of normal(taking iron supplements), also taking CoQ10 as per Dr. recommendation. Started seeing Kathy in January/2015, acupuncture treatments twice a week for 1 cycle, then switch to once a week treatments after. Anxiety was improved, body temperature improved(warmer). Sleep has improved. treatment was stopped in June/2015 and patient got pregnant in July/2015.

Case #4. PCOS, Painful period.

PMS, overweight.Female age 34, VK, no previous children, Patient is undering IVF procedure. Has Crohn's disease since teenager seasonal and pet allergies since little, also has joint pains since little that comes and goes, main concern is PCOS, severe, cramping, migraine before period, PMS(3-5 days) before period, poor appetite, can't seem to loose weight easily even with lots of exercise and controlled eating. Bloating easily, and irregular bowel movement. Taking metformin, vitamin B, C, D, folic acid, omega 3, 6. Patient started her visit with Kathy in mid July/2015, determined to be pregnant, with referral from YFC, did 2 acupuncture treatments before her retrieval process. Did a pre-ivf transfer treatment and post-ivf transfer treatments. Couldn't do anymore treatments for patient as the patient comes from out of town. Pregnancy test positive with this IVF procedure. Patient reported she is healthy and pregnant at 8 weeks at end of August/2015.

Case #5. Recurring miscarriage.

Incompetent cervix.ZM,Female 34, Seeking to treat recurring miscarriage, incompetent cervix. Trying for baby #2. Came to Kathy to treat her history of multiple recurring miscarriage with her 1st baby, delivered a healthy b aby #1 via C section in November/2011. Now trying again for baby #2 , and is having trouble getting pregnant Occupation is stressful(Bank Manager), reports of heavy menstrual bleeding, fatique, migraine, PMS symptoms. Had Lumpectomy done in 2003. Started acupuncture in March/2014. Did acupuncture with Kathy once a week for almost 2 month. Took a break to have surgery to reconstruct uterus. Restarted acupuncture treatments once a week in October/2014. Previous symptoms still present after surgery, in some cases feel even more tired but found acupuncture helpful. Started cycle monitoring in January2015, given progesterone and baby aspirin. Feeling more tired and stressed with cycle monitoring, and migraines, and getting sick more easily with stress. Patient decides to put a hold on cycle monitoring and focus trying naturally and with regular acupuncture on weekly basis. She got pregnant in April/2015. Patient is expecting her 2nd baby arrival in December/2015.


Case #6. Short Luteal Phase
YW, Female 40, had history of 2 misscarriages. did acupuncture and herbs and got pregnant in March 2015. Now trying again in October 2017, period cycle is longer after stop breast feeding, was 55 days, now with letrozol to help shorten cycle and help with ovulation, cycle went down to 45 days. Patient also does her own temp reading, found that her luteal phase is short, she gets her period 10 days after ovulation. did 3 cycles with letrozol. no issue with husband. Patient is very anxious with getting pregnant. After 7 consecutive treatments with acupuncture, her period is more regular, period duration was shorter, however her flow was more even throughout the 3 heavy days. She also reported she has a longer luteal phase on the 4th visit. on 8th visit, patient wanted to try naturally before deciding medicated cycle with IUI, she was pregnant naturally without any medication.

Vertigo/Stress/Anxiety Attack


AS, Female, age 40. Complains of vertigo. Did MRI, left ear has nerve damage. Has vertigo for 2 year and is feeling depressed, stressed. symptoms leads to headache and anxiety attacks. Feeling nausea, fear, and has vertigo everyday that comes and goes. Had a car accident 4 years ago, not sure if it has any relationship. Appetite is poor. Loss of concentration. Sleep: need to sleep alot, otherwise even more dizzy. Can sometimes feel heart palpitation, sometimes missed a beat. Hormonal disorder - feel cold during the day, and hot at night. Tend to get Urinary Tract Infection easily. Started treatment with Kathy June 2015, once a week. After 4 treatment, headache was gone, dizziness/vertigo reduced by 50%, energy improved. After 6 treatment, feels her condition is much more under control. Patient is feeling much more optimistic, in much better spirit. Appetite improved, memory has improved. Hasn't had severe anxiety attacks. Body temperature was also more regulated. After 10 treatment, dizziness and vertigo under control. She continues with acupuncture on as needed basis to keep her balanced.



Neuropathy


JD, Female, age 58, Has Pancreatic Cancer, currently undergoing chemo, Half way through chemo therapy, experiencing numbness on hand and fingers. has trouble even holding a cup in the morning, feel worse in the morning when retrieving food from fridge. Selected wind points on hand and SJ points as well as points to enhance circulation. Patient find 70% relieve after 2 sessions.

chronic back pain



Age 54, female. Housewife. Had Lower back since her last baby 20 years ago and never went away. Her lower back pain limits her activities during the day, can't strain, otherwise condition worsens. After a few years with treatments from Chiropractor and physiotherapy, results are not desirable. Started treatment with Kathy in March 2016, reports that her lower back pain improved 70% after treatment.

Anxiety Attack/Vertigo



​​JC, Female, age 11. Has vertigo and headache in a few occasions during school. Was not aware what it was. Went to emergency and had some tests done. Doctors say all test come out normal. no signs of potential tumors, did not do MRI because of her age and basic testing does not suggest further testing. Doctor will continue to monitor situation. Patient also went to see optomistrist and got prescription for new glasses to rule out if it may be related to her vision. Meanwhile, patient continues to have vertigo, is timid. Tired and depressed, unable to concentrate in school. Her vertigo comes and goes. She started seeing Kathy a week after all her test at the hospital. March 2016. After 2 weeks of treatment, dizziness was 80% under control.



painful period



AM, Female, age 13. Period started after 12 years old, complains of painful period, couldn't go to school every month on her heavy flow days, needed bed rest. Kathy treated her once a week, cramp was reduced to 50% in 1 month. ​​

At 36 weeks, carrying twins. Initially came to Kathy for treatment for infertility and now pregnant with twins. Ultrasound showed breech baby, she wants to try and deliver naturally.  After 3 treatments, ultrasound showed baby in proper position and patient was able to deliver naturally.

restless Leg syndrome



JC, Age 10, male, student. Trouble falling asleep at night due to Restless Leg Syndrome as diagnosed by family doctor. Runs in the family. Did 2 treatments with focus on the BL channels and patient had not complained about Restless Leg and able to sleep soundly.

post cancer care



JM, Female, age 53. had breast cancer, post radiation therapy. Also had chemo done. Get Hot flashes, night sweat. Feel tired all the time, has fibromyalgia, also has osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis pain more obvious after radiation therapy, more noticeable in the knee joints. Shoulder, leg, knees, thigh, arm feel tired. Has migraine headache. Sleep is poor - sleep alot but not restful. Referred to Kathy in Sept 2014 from Oncologist from MSH, did acupuncture treatment once a week. after 3 months, hot flash and night sweat improved. energy is good. Joint pain under control, are able to go for walks and swim for gentle exercise. migraine headache was gone. sleep improved. Patient continues to see Kathy once a month for wellness and maintenance.





depression



Age 14, female. Student. Trouble sleeping at night, result in trouble focusing during the day for school. easily irritable. Very emotional. diagnosed with depression. Easily frightful. Seeing psychiatrist and taking anti depressant. Recluctant with treatment at first, afraid of needles and very nervous. Her benefit from acupuncture was minimal in the first 2 weeks as she was not commited to acupuncture regimen, patient did tried 2 session and came back after 2 weeks, result was not significant. after that, another 4 sessions of more committed treatment, patient start to notice benefits - calmer, sleep was improved, not as irritable.

placenta not delivering enough nutrient to fetus



MS, 37, female, at 32 weeks, Ultrasound showed baby at 3.2 lbs, Patient has severe morning sickness in the beginning of pregnancy, then had strepthroat during pregnancy, brought her general health down during pregnancy, also taking care of a toddler. Patient is very tired, weak. OB Confirmed the placenta is not delivering enough nutrient to fetus, however her blood flow is normal. Other symptoms include lower back pain, hand/arm numbness, has carpal Tunnel Syndrome, poor sleep, poor bowel movement. After 1 week of acupuncture treatment, fetus grew by 30%. On labor, due date was on target, delivery took 2 hours and baby weight was 5 lbs. mother and baby doing well.



poor memory



CM, Age 80, Female. Worries of dementia, lately been having trouble remembering simple things like grandkid's names, very forgetful. Other complains include trouble staying asleep after wake up to use the washroom, and wake up multiple times to use the washroom at night. Aside from the above complaints, patient also has joint pains on right arm which result in numbness when sleeping and waking up with it. Lower back pain on the back and long hip area, neck stiffness all the time, knee pain on the right as well. After 6 treatments, patient reports better sleep, better memory(wake up more clear minded), pain on right shoulder improved 80%. ​



vertigo



BM, Age 73, M, Saw ENT(Ear Nose Throat Doctor) 7 months before coming to try acupuncture, didn't have much benefit. Complains of vertigo mostly in the morning, halfway through the day. Patient also gets headache occassionally. Previously had prostate cancer. TCM diagnosis: kidney qi deficiency with liver yang rising and blood deficiency.  After 3 session, patient report significant improvement with vertigo. Vertigo very minimal - only for a bit when wake up in the morning standing up.
